Meeting of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Business Association

05 feb, 2026

On February 4, on the sidelines of his working visit to Japan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan held meetings with Fusato Tanaka, Head of the Central Asia and Caucasus Department of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as Kyoichi Suzuki, Executive Director of the Japan Business Association (ROTOBO).

During the meeting at the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Deputy Foreign Minister highly valued the implementation of programs aimed at developing Armenia's capabilities in a number of areas, including disaster prevention, human resource development, and humanitarian assistance in previous years.

Within the framework of bilateral cooperation, recent achievements in the technological sector were particularly highlighted, such as the opening of Tumo center in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, the first in Asia. The parties also touched upon the agenda related to the participation of companies from Armenia in the “JAPAN IT Week” event to be held in April of the current year.

The sides also exchanged views on areas of cooperation, including the need to implement joint programs in the environmental sector. The possibility of cooperation within the framework of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity to be hosted by Armenia was also discussed.

During the meeting with Kyoichi Suzuki, Executive Director of the Japan Business Association (ROTOBO), the sides emphasized the need for continuous steps aimed at raising awareness of Armenia's economic potential in Japan, highly commending the cooperation established with the Japan Business Association in this regard. In this context, the events jointly organized with ROTOBO last year were highlighted, which served as a stimulus for establishing business dialogue with Japan. The launch of the "Japan-Armenia Network for Investment Environment Improvement" website was underscored.

Referring to current programs, the parties particularly emphasized the importance of the participation of wine companies from Armenia in the "FOODEX JAPAN 2026" exhibition to be held in Tokyo in March of this year, which will contribute to the presentation of Armenian wine products in the Japanese market.
