Event in Tokyo celebrating the 24rd Anniversary of the Independence of Armenia

On September 24, the Embassy of Armenia to Japan hosted an official reception in the Orchard hall of Hotel Okura, Tokyo, to celebrate the 24rd Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. Members of the Japanese parliament, officials from several government agencies and institutions, ambassadors, diplomats, members of the Japan-Armenia Society and the Japanese-Armenian Friendship Association, businesspersons, artists and journalists were among the guests.

At the opening of the event, the guests were greeted by Ambassador Pogosyan. The ambassador spoke in particular about Armenia’s achievements since its independence, mentioning about the activities aimed at further development of the country. He particularly emphasized the significance of this year for the Armenian people, when the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide is being commemorated around the world. Ambassador Pogosyan expressed fulfillment with strengthening of the relations between Armenia and Japan year-by-year and noted that Armenia and Japan have an active agenda of cooperation in several fields.

The Ambassador’s greeting was followed by a welcome speech by Mr. Seishiro Eto, president of Japan-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship League. He congratulated on the occasion of the Armenian Independence and emphasized that there is a good basis for further deepening of ties between the two countries, and confirmed that with responsible collaboration it is possible to achieve substantial results soon.

Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan also gave a congratulatory message addressed to the leadership of Armenia, to the Armenian people and to the guests. He touched upon the progress achieved in the Armenia-Japan relations during recent years; activation of mutual visits, deepening of cooperation and organization of many events. Mr. Kiuchi expressed confidence that both countries will continue taking steps towards further strengthening of the existing friendship.
