On June 2-4 the Chairman of Armenia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group Samvel Farmanyan and the Deputy Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Alexander Arzumanyan were in Japan on a working visit.

In Tokyo the Armenian parliamentarians had a meeting with Takeaki Matsumoto, the Chairman of Japan-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Association, the former Foreign Minister of Japan.

During the meeting the sides highlighted the further intensification of inter-parliamentary relations, as well as the possibility of the first joint meeting between the Friendship Groups in Yerevan on the occasion of the opening of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Armenia.

The NA deputies Alexander Arzumanyan and Samvel Farmanyan had a meeting with Shunichi Suzuki, the Chair of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee of Japan. Welcoming the progress in the Armenian-Japanese friendly relations in recent years, Shunichi Suzuki spotlighted the Armenian MPs’ visit to Japan, expressing confidence that such visits, as well as the establishment of the diplomatic permanent representation of Japan in Yerevan would give a new impetus to the Armenian-Japanese relations. The Armenian parliamentarians also presented to Shunichi Suzuki the approaches of the Republic of Armenia on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia-Turkey relations and regional security problems.

In Tokyo Nobuo Kishi, the Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan received Samvel Farmanyan and Alexander Arzumanyan. The interlocutors discussed the agenda of the Armenian-Japanese bilateral relations and the perspectives of cooperation in the international organizations. The Armenian MPs thanked them for the 0.5bln USD assistance provided by Japan to the Republic of Armenia since the independence and emphasized the further continuity of effective cooperation with the Government of Japan in the sphere of social-economic reforms.
