Charity Concert in Fukuoka

In commemoration of the second anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in the Tohoku region, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Japan and Gharibyan Krunk Dance Company organized a charity performance of Armenian dance and music held on March 11, 2013 in Momochi Hall of Fukuoka city.

In his opening address, Dr. Grant Pogosyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Japan, mentioned that Japan was among the first and most generous in extending a helping hand to the Armenian people when a devastating earthquake occurred in Armenia in December, 1988. “Japan’s pain had particularly resonated in the hearts of many Armenians who had experienced the terrifying consequences of such a calamity, and our people expresses sincere sympathy and support to the friendly people of Japan.”

The three-part dance show performed by the disciples of the “Gharibyan Ballet Academy” – a school established in Fukuoka in 2011 – was accompanied by Armenian classical music, partly played live on stage. Proceeds of the event were donated to Ashinaga Ikueikai for children in need in the Tohoku region.

Nearly 800 people attended this charity concert, which was publicized in the local media.
