The Armenian community in Japan, members of the Japan-Armenia Society and the Japan-Armenia Friendship Association gathered on March 9th, 2013 in the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Tokyo to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sumgayit pogroms.

In his message Ambassador Grant Pogosyan spoke of killings and felonies committed against ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan during the end of the 20th century, as well as on comprehensive anti-Armenian propaganda still practiced in Azerbaijan. The ambassador stressed that the evidence of mass murders, ethnic cleansing based on national, racial hatred must be recorded and remembered. He also asked to strongly condemn such acts in order to prevent them from happening in the future.

In a moment of silence the participants paid respect to the memory of innocent victims of Sumgayit crimes.
