Official opening Ceremony of the Armenian Embassy in Japan

On September 30, 2010 the official ceremony of the opening of the Armenian Embassy in Japan took place in Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, Japan.

At the Reception, dedicated to the 19th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia, the Japanese Audience was informed about the establishing of the Armenian diplomatic mission to Japan according to the decree of H.E. President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, issued earlier, August 2010.

Japanese high-ranking officials, members of the Diet, other political, social organizations, cultural and educational institutions attended the ceremony.

Special advisor to the Embassy, Dr. Grant Pogosyan, in his welcome address, stressed that this is not the first time as Armenia has opened its diplomatic mission in Japan. In fact, in 1920 Japan recognized the independence of the Democratic Republic of Armenia, also referred to as the First Republic of Armenia (founded in 1918), and received lady Diana Abgar as the head of the mission in Tokyo. Diana Abgar, who was known as the first woman Ambassador, lived in Japan after her mission, and is buried in Yokohama.

The Event was accompanied by Armenian National Music performed by Armenian and Japanese musicians.
